Carlos Nobre is the 2020 Engineer of the year

Internationally recognized for his scientific work on climate change, with special attention to the Amazon Forest, Carlos Nobre is the 58th engineer to receive this award from the Brazilian Engineering Institute (www.ie.org.br).

Award recognizes professionals who stood out in their field or who have a career marked by continuous contributions to the promotion and improvement of Engineering. Carlos Nobre’s nomination comes at a time when issues of preservation and development need to be addressed with great responsibility.

Scientist, researcher and professor, Nobre is well-known in environmental research, especially research in tropical forests, such as the Amazon. He played an important role in the IPCC – Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – that received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

He graduated in Electronic Engineering from Instituto Tecnológico da Aeronáutica (ITA) and earned a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is currently a senior researcher at the University of São Paulo (USP), and coordinates the ‘Amazon 4.0’ project, an initiative aimed at the transformation of the forest into a technological entrepreneurship center that adds value to the socio-biodiversity of the region.
