[Imagem: Jos\u00e9 Capmany et al. &#8211; 10.1038\/nphoton.2015.254]<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Circuito integrado \u00f3ptico flex\u00edvel <\/p>\n<p><\/strong>Quando constru\u00edram o primeiro chip fot\u00f4nico multiuso, os pesquisadores anunciaram que aquele era um passo essencial rumo a um processador fot\u00f4nico reprogram\u00e1vel, an\u00e1logo aos atuais chips eletr\u00f4nicos FPGA. <\/p>\n<p>O objetivo agora foi alcan\u00e7ado, em escala de laborat\u00f3rio, por Jos\u00e9 Capmany, Ivana Gasulla e Daniel P\u00e9rez, da Universidade Polit\u00e9cnica de Val\u00eancia, na Espanha. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;De forma similar \u00e0 inven\u00e7\u00e3o dos FPGAs eletr\u00f4nicos em 1985, a disponibilidade em grande escala de chips \u00f3pticos program\u00e1veis ser\u00e1 um passo importante rumo ao processamento ultrarr\u00e1pido de sinais de banda larga,&#8221; comentou o professor Jianping Yao, da Universidade de Ottawa, no Canad\u00e1, em coment\u00e1rio publicado pela revista Nature a respeito do feito da equipe espanhola. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Atualmente a velocidade do processamento digital de sinais \u00e9 limitada pela velocidade de convers\u00e3o anal\u00f3gico-para-digital (ADC). O chip ADC mais r\u00e1pido do mundo [fabricado pela Texas Instruments] pode operar a 1 giga-amostra por segundo, o que corresponde a uma largura de banda de 500 MHz. Para um chip \u00f3ptico program\u00e1vel em larga escala, a banda de processamento pode ser 1.000 vezes mais larga, centenas de GHz,&#8221; completou Yao.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"320\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/site\/userfiles\/010150160119-chip-optico-reconfiguravel-3.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Esquema de cada unidade program\u00e1vel do circuito integrado fot\u00f4nico. [Imagem: Jos\u00e9 Capmany et al. &#8211; 10.1038\/nphoton.2015.254]<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>FPGA fot\u00f4nicos <br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nFPGA \u00e9 a sigla de Field-Programmable Gate Array (arranjo de portas program\u00e1vel em campo), um tipo de circuito integrado fabricado para ser configurado pelo projetista ap\u00f3s a fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o &#8211; da\u00ed o termo &#8220;program\u00e1vel em campo&#8221; que comp\u00f5e sua sigla. <\/p>\n<p>A empresa pioneira na fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o de circuitos integrados FPGA, a Altera, foi recentemente adquirida pela Intel por US$16,7 bilh\u00f5es, o que mostra o valor e a import\u00e2ncia futura dos circuitos integrados \u00f3pticos program\u00e1veis. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Trata-se de um primeiro passo rumo a uma nova revolu\u00e7\u00e3o no campo das telecomunica\u00e7\u00f5es. Em um futuro n\u00e3o muito distante, disporemos de circuitos integrados fot\u00f4nicos gen\u00e9ricos, com uma configura\u00e7\u00e3o padr\u00e3o e um n\u00facleo universal, que poder\u00e3o ser programados conforme necess\u00e1rio.
