O microchip, que tem a dimens\u00e3o de uma unha de crian\u00e7a, \u00e9 o primeiro que \u00e9 pequeno o suficiente para ser implantado directamente na espinal-medula dos doentes. <\/p>\n<p>O microchip, que incorpora numa \u00fanica unidade os el\u00e9ctrodos e o estimulador muscular, \u00abconsegue estimular um maior n\u00famero de grupos musculares do que at\u00e9 agora a tecnologia possibilitava, j\u00e1 que pode ser implantado junto \u00e0 espinal-medula\u00bb, afirmou \u00e0 BBC o coordenador da investiga\u00e7\u00e3o. <\/p>\n<p>Andreas Demosthenus, da University College de Londres, explicou ainda que um maior n\u00famero de m\u00fasculos estimulados significa, no caso dos parapl\u00e9gicos, que o est\u00edmulo \u00e9 suficiente \u00abpara lhes permitir fazer com as pernas os movimentos de pedalar ou de remar\u00bb. <\/p>\n<p>Para al\u00e9m do est\u00edmulo aos m\u00fasculos das pernas, este tipo de microchip pode ser utilizado na regenera\u00e7\u00e3o de outras fun\u00e7\u00f5es.
