Atualmente, \u00e9 considerada a maior ponte mar\u00edtima do mundo, com 36.000 metros de comprimento.<\/p>\n<p>A ponte conecta dois importantes centros econ\u00f4micos da China: Xangai e Ningbo, na prov\u00edncia de Zhejiang. Ela reduzir\u00e1 em 120 km a dist\u00e2ncia entre as duas cidades, bem como o tempo de viagem de carro, que cair\u00e1 de quatro para duas horas[2]. Foi aberta ao tr\u00e1fego no dia 1 de maio de 2008[3].\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>custo total do investimento foi de 11,8 bilh\u00f5es de yuans (U$$ 2,8 bilh\u00f5es, ou 1,09 bilh\u00e3o de euros). No ranking mundial de comprimento, a ponte da Ba\u00eda de Hangzhou est\u00e1 em terceiro lugar, precedida pela ponte de Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, com 38 422 metros, e pela ponte do P\u00e2ntano Manchac, com 36 710, ambas localizadas no estado da Louisiana. <\/p>\n<p>A ponte sofreu diversos estudos de viabilidade e foi finalmente aprovado em 2003. O plano original era para a ponte come\u00e7ar de Jinshan, um sub\u00farbio de Xangai. Depois foram levantadas objec\u00e7\u00f5es pelo Governo Municipal de Xangai, no entanto, foi deslocado para o territ\u00f3rio sul da Prov\u00edncia de Zhejiang. Ela corta a dist\u00e2ncia a partir de Xangai at\u00e9 Ningbo. Considerando que anteriormente a viagem de Ningbo e Xangai envolvia um desvio de aproximadamente 400 km (249 milhas), a ponte que reduz a dist\u00e2ncia para 80 km (50 milhas), uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o de 320 km (199 milhas).
