At\u00e9 agora, nenhuma colis\u00e3o entre part\u00edculas foi feita no interior do LHC. <\/p>\n<p>Com os bons resultados, os cientistas preparam-se agora para elevar paulatinamente os n\u00edveis de energia, at\u00e9 atingir os 3,5 terael\u00e9tron-Volts (TeV) previstos para esta etapa inicial. Se tudo correr bem, no final de 2010 o acelerador de part\u00edculas dever\u00e1 estar funcionando a 7 TeV. <\/p>\n<p><strong>No caminho certo<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Foram mais de 14 meses de paralisa\u00e7\u00e3o para corrigir defeitos que surgiram assim que o gigantesco anel de 27 quil\u00f4metros de di\u00e2metro foi acionado pela primeira vez. <\/p>\n<p>Apura\u00e7\u00f5es feitas pelos engenheiros sobre a origem dos defeitos levaram os respons\u00e1veis pelo experimento a decidir que o LHC funcionar\u00e1 inicialmente com apenas metade da capacidade prevista. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;\u00c9 formid\u00e1vel ver circular novamente os feixes no LHC. Ainda h\u00e1 uma longa estrada a percorrer, mas este grande passo dado hoje nos coloca no caminho,&#8221; disse o diretor-geral do CERN, Rolf Heuer. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Big Bang<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>O LHC, cujo custo \u00e9 estimado em US$8 bilh\u00f5es, come\u00e7ou a operar em setembro de 2008 na fronteira franco-su\u00ed\u00e7a. Mas o aparelho apresentou um problema de vazamento e teve que ser novamente aquecido para possibilitar o conserto &#8211; sua temperatura de funcionamento \u00e9 de -271 \u00baC (ou 1,9 kelvin) &#8211; mais frio do que o espa\u00e7o profundo. <\/p>\n<p>O LHC foi projetado para atirar pr\u00f3tons uns contra os outros quase \u00e0 velocidade da luz.
