A tecnologia, que ainda precisa ser testada em escala, tem o atrativo de ser muito mais barata do que outras alternativas em desenvolvimento e, n\u00e3o por outro motivo, atraiu a aten\u00e7\u00e3o instant\u00e2nea de empresas.<\/p>\n<p>Utilizando cristais de perovskita, um material que tem o ni\u00f3bio entre seus componentes, os pesquisadores criaram um sistema que recicla o pr\u00f3prio CO2 emitido na produ\u00e7\u00e3o do a\u00e7o e o transforma em uma fonte de energia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasicamente estamos fechando o ciclo do carbono dentro do alto-forno\u201d, diz ao Reset Harriet Kildahl, uma das autoras do paper, publicado no fim de janeiro.<\/p>\n<p>A produ\u00e7\u00e3o de a\u00e7o \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel por cerca de 8% dos gases de efeito estufa lan\u00e7ados na atmosfera, principalmente o di\u00f3xido de carbono, ou CO2, principal subproduto das usinas sider\u00fargicas.<\/p>\n<p>A inova\u00e7\u00e3o proposta pelos pesquisadores envolve a constru\u00e7\u00e3o de uma esp\u00e9cie de \u201cunidade de filtragem\u201d anexa ao alto-forno e alimentada pela chamin\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Ao entrar em contato com a perovskita, as mol\u00e9culas de CO2 s\u00e3o quebradas em duas: sobram um \u00e1tomo de oxig\u00eanio e outro de CO, ou mon\u00f3xido de carbono.<\/p>\n<p>Esse CO pode ser ent\u00e3o reinjetado no alto-forno para servir de combust\u00edvel e reagir com o min\u00e9rio de ferro, substituindo at\u00e9 90% do coque, ou carv\u00e3o metal\u00fargico, usado no processo e altamente poluente.<\/p>\n<p>A rea\u00e7\u00e3o do cristal com o CO2 acontece a cerca de 800\u00b0C \u2013 o pr\u00f3prio calor do alto-forno, que pode atingir o dobro dessa temperatura, pode ser aproveitado.<\/p>\n<p>Depois de \u201cretirar\u201d os \u00e1tomos de oxig\u00eanio do CO2, o cristal pode ser reutilizado durante muito tempo. \u201cEle se autorrecicla\u201d, diz Kildahl.<\/p>\n<p>Caso comprovada em escalas maiores, a inova\u00e7\u00e3o tem implica\u00e7\u00f5es que v\u00e3o al\u00e9m das redu\u00e7\u00f5es de emiss\u00f5es da siderurgia.<\/p>\n<p>A mais imediata e importante delas tem a ver com o custo: al\u00e9m da economia com o coque, o m\u00e9todo pode prolongar a vida \u00fatil das plantas baseadas em altos-fornos, respons\u00e1veis por cerca de 70% do a\u00e7o produzido no mundo, o que reduziria drasticamente os investimentos na descarboniza\u00e7\u00e3o do setor.<\/p>\n<p>Os cristais de perovskita podem ter v\u00e1rias composi\u00e7\u00f5es diferentes, dependendo da finalidade. Os usados no experimento brit\u00e2nico s\u00e3o produzidos artificialmente \u00e0 base de c\u00e1lcio e ferro, dois elementos baratos e amplamente dispon\u00edveis.<\/p>\n<p>O terceiro ingrediente \u00e9 o ni\u00f3bio. Esse metal, que tem a maior produ\u00e7\u00e3o no Brasil, \u00e9 o \u00fanico item de custo relevante, afirma Kildahl.<\/p>\n<p>J\u00e1 as alternativas em estudo para produzir a\u00e7o de baixo carbono, como as que usam o hidrog\u00eanio verde, exigem investimentos bilion\u00e1rios para a constru\u00e7\u00e3o de novas plantas.<\/p>\n<p>Al\u00e9m disso, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de hidrog\u00eanio verde ainda est\u00e1 engatinhando no mundo todo. O pre\u00e7o desse vetor de energia ainda \u00e9 proibitivo, e vai demorar mais de uma d\u00e9cada at\u00e9 que os volumes sejam suficientes para atender \u00e0 ind\u00fastria do a\u00e7o.<\/p>\n<p>Outros m\u00e9todos, como o de eletr\u00f3lise desenvolvido pela Boston Metal, envolve uma maneira completamente nova de purifica\u00e7\u00e3o do min\u00e9rio de ferro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corrida das empresas<\/strong><br \/>\nYulong Ding, co-autor do estudo e diretor do Centro de Armazenamento de Energia da Universidade de Birmingham, diz ter sido surpreendido pelo interesse da ind\u00fastria desde a publica\u00e7\u00e3o do paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDissemos [\u00e0s empresas] que o plano \u00e9 ter uma planta piloto em cinco anos, e nos perguntam: \u2018por que n\u00e3o acelerar esse prazo\u2019\u201d, afirma Ding.<\/p>\n<p>Ele estima que essa primeira unidade v\u00e1 consumir investimento de pelo menos 10 milh\u00f5es de libras (cerca de US$ 12 milh\u00f5es).<\/p>\n<p>A ideia \u00e9 formar um cons\u00f3rcio envolvendo empresas do setor para financiar o projeto e montar a primeira planta junto a um alto-forno pequeno e que esteja no fim de seu ciclo de vida.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalreset.com\/a-inovacao-que-promete-cortar-emissoes-e-custos-da-siderurgia\/\"><em><strong>Fonte: Reset<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pesquisadores da Universidade de Birmingham, na Inglaterra, desenvolveram um m\u00e9todo para cortar em at\u00e9 90% as emiss\u00f5es de CO2 das sider\u00fargicas.
